The Hughes Team

This is the second year that the Penrose St. Francis emergency medicine department in Colorado Springs has received its Emergency Medicine Excellence Award. It scored in the top five percent nationally in a survey by the rankings group Health Grades. This group states that being treated at one of the 268 hospitals that received this award offered patients a 40% lower risk of death than an average hospital.

Penrose St. Francis Emergency Department

Penrose St. Francis Hospital, which includes both Penrose Main and St. Francis Medical Center, was again named one of America's 50 best hospitals by the rating group Health Grades. Health Grade looks at 26 common procedures and diagnoses and then determines which hospitals are the top performers. Penrose St. Francis Hospital was the only hospital in Colorado to make the list. Health grades said that patients at its top hospitals had a 28.6 % lower rsk of death and 3.5% lower rate of complications than at an average hospital.
