Colorado Springs home building nearly for year highThe Gazette reported that March was the strongest month for Colorado Springs in almost four years. Single family building permits totaled 172 in March, the highest one month total since the 180 in May 2008. Due to these numbers the Colorado Springs Home and Building Association predicted that 2012 permits could top last year's by 15 to 20 percent. The current uptrend is being driven by low mortgage rates and better consumer confidence. Space economy soared in 2011The Colorado Springs based Space Foundation reported in "The Space Report 2012: The Authorative Guide to Global Space Activity" that the global space economy grew 12.2 percent last year, to $289.77 billion. The biggest growth was driven by consumer demand for two space derived products and services: GPS devices and chipsets and direct-to-home television. Energy industry gives boost to Colorado incomesThe U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that Colorado's booming energy industry helped boost incomes in the state faster than the national average last year, providing for the most growth in five years. Personal income by Colorado residents jumped 5.7 percent from a year earlier. Earnings growth in the mining industry and the professional and technical services sector were the two largest contributors to Colorado's income growth in 2011.

Bass Pro Shop coming to Colorado SpringsCopper Ridge plans to open the 117,000 sq. ft. Bass Pro Shop in the Copper Ridge Shopping Center at Northgate in northern Colorado Springs in summer of 2013. A resort described as a "log and rock decor" and family sized, themed suites and a 30,000 sq.ft. indoor-outdoor water park will be part of the project and are scheduled to open in 2014. The Copper Ridge project calls for an enclosed mall and an open air lifestyle center, along with box stores, so called junior anchors, restaurants and smaller shops, and a 12 screen movie theater complex.
