Colorado Springs home building nearly for year high

The Gazette reported that March was the strongest month for Colorado Springs in almost four years. Single family building permits totaled 172 in March, the highest one month total since the 180 in May 2008.  Due to these numbers the Colorado Springs Home and Building Association predicted that 2012 permits could top last year's by 15 to 20 percent.

The current uptrend is being driven by low mortgage rates and better consumer confidence.

The home building industry employs thousands of people in the Pikes Peak region and generates sales tax revenues.
